Alberto Contador in promising Dauphiné action

Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Alberto Contador had a beautiful come-back on today’s 139 kilometer long fifth stage of Criterium du Dauphiné to Valmorel where the scene was set for a GC battle on the uphill finish. Several breakaways threatened to steal the full attention during the day but in the end it all came down to Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Alberto Contador and Chris Froome (Sky). In the tight duel, Froome took four seconds on Contador while teammate, Michael Rogers finished fifth and is now fourth overall:

Team Saxo-Tinkoff DS, Philippe Mauduit was happy about today’s progress:

“I think the team did much better than we’ve seen so far and with three riders among the very best today, I can only be content. Alberto performed very well and showed his true power compared to yesterday’s time trial and he seems to be on the right track for the Tour de France. I reckon tomorrow’s stage is for the sprinters, so our goal is to bring Alberto safely to the finish line before another mountain battle in the weekend, “said Saxo-Tinkoff’s Philippe Mauduit after today’s stage.

Chris Froome (Sky) now leads the race overall.
