What's Cool In Road Cycling

Alberto Contador joined one thousand cyclists in Santander

Almost a thousand cyclists started the race on Sunday in Santander of the IV Granfondo Alberto Contador that for the first time in its four year history has been held outside Pinto (Madrid), birthplace of the triple winner of the Tour, Giro and Vuelta a España.

Contador arrived in Santander after completing a hard training block in the Canary Islands and from there will go to Switzerland, where he will wait until the start of the Criterium of Dauphine, his last race before taking the start of the Tour de France.

Alberto covered much of the long-distance test of 165 km in the company of one of his own riders in the Specialized U-23 Team, Pablo Noriega, born in Cantabria , who offered his rear wheel when Alberto suffered a flat. Contador waited there for assistance and finished the test that will serve as a final tune-up before the Dauphiné.

The IV Granfondo Alberto Contador has beaten his record of inscriptions in its first outing from Pinto, after becoming a traveling race whose spirit is to bring cycling to all those places that request, as has been the case for Santander, that this year has been nominated European City of Sport.

The race concluded, as is customary in this granfondo, with a giant paella for all participants, as well as a raffle of various gifts offered by the sponsors of this charity event, where the benefits are exclusively dedicated to promoting cycling and the bicycle as a means of clean transportation.
