Alex Kirsch wins the U23 National Time Trial Championships
Alex Kirsch is the new U23 National Time Trial champion of Luxembourg. In Dippach he won the 22km TT, beating Mike Diener and Massimo Morabito, with a time of 28:15 over 22 kilometer. On Sunday Kirsch will defend his road title.
“I knew the course very well, because I raced for the local cycling club in Dippach for years”, says Kirsch, referring to the two laps of 11k with a 5k false flat and one serious climb that were on the menu. Kirsch: “It was a course where you could go fast, but in the same time you could never recover. The wind was a factor too.”
“I felt good on the first lap, despite my illness earlier this week. In the second lap, however, I started feeling feverish and weaker, but I remained focussed.”
On Sunday Kirsch will defend his U23 National Road Title in a race where amateurs and pros race together. “It has been an honor to wear the national jersey on the road for a year. Whatever the result on Sunday, I’ll get to wear the Luxembourgish flag during the TT’s already for the next year. I’m very happy!”
