All the top-3 for RusVelo in the GC of GP of Adygeya after stage four

RusVelo didn’t miss a single strategic chance of those that presented themselves in stage 4 of GP of Adygeya. Totally focusing on the general standings, the team managed to place Sergey Lagutin and Sergey Firsanov in second and third spots, respectively, while Ilnur Zakarin remains a clear leader. Alexander Foliforov of Itera-Katusha won the stage in a late attack on 15 km-long grueling climb up to Plateau Lagonaki, with gradient reaching 15% at some ramps.

Alexander Efimkin, RusVelo DS: “Today I saw that for our guys team is much more than just a word. Once again it was all for one and one for all. Ilnur Zakarin had excellent legs today, and he could easily go with Foliforov and for the stage; but he opted to help his teammates Sergey Lagutin and Sergey Firsanov to place as high as possible, paying them back for their support on more than one occasion this season. He didn’t loosen his grip on the yellow jersey and was almost omnipresent at the same time”.

Sergey Lagutin: “I’m reasonably happy with my second position in the standings, I hoped for more but the stage profile was not exactly cut out for me – I prefer a couple of “warm-up” climbs before the main one, to find my rhythm. Here it was full gas before the very bottom of the climb, then a wall all of sudden. Both Sergey Firsanov and I risked being dropped but Ilnur waited for us and pulled us back a couple of times – he showed himself as a classy rider and a symbol of team spirit, hats off to him! Again, as to me, I’m pretty happy with my form and hope to put it to a maximum use at the Giro del Trentino”.
