What's Cool In Road Cycling

Anastasia Chulkova Takes Gold

RusVelo team rider Anastasia Chulkova, points race World champion of 2012, won yet another title at the winter Russian track championships in dominating style, ahead of Tamara Balabolina and Galina Streltsova, in the 40 laps long scratch race. Mikhail Rostovtsev, the team DS, had this to say:

“Excellent team work paid off, and we have to thank each rider. After ten laps the girls raised the pace sharply, completely destroying the field and making the race extremely uncomfortable for the sprinters. Anastasia Chulkova only had to crown their efforts. It’s a very important win, and not just because of the fact that it opens RusVelo’s winning score this season. I really loved the manner in which it was taken; we work here on tactical schemes to be used on the road, and we see now that we are moving in the right direction.”

A day earlier the RusVelo women quartet set the best time in team pursuit. On Sunday there is one more serious chance to add something to the team’s medal tally, the points race.
