Area Zero D’Amico, are Back to the Races

On Friday the Trofeo Laigueglia and on Sunday the GP Izola

It’s time for Area Zero D’Amico to get back into the mix. The brand new, all Italian continental team led by team managers Ivan De Paolis and Andrea Tonti had a fantastic season debut at the GP Costa Etruschi, where they made it to the podium with a third place by Andrea Pasqualon. Now the next objective is called Trofeo Laigueglia. The 51st edition of this historic race is set for Friday, February 21st.

“After the team retreat in Tuscany and the GP Etruschi the guys had a few days off and then it was back to training as our athletic trainer Paolo Santello and I kept a close eye on them,” says ds Massimo Codol. “Everything went well; Andrea Pasqualon and Paolo Ciavatta remain our points of reference but there are other members like Stefano Tonin who are starting to be in excellent shape. Friday will be a real race; compared to Donoratico all of the other squads have also surely been growing and there’s definitely going to be some good competition. The bad weather we’ve been having recently caused a landslide in Aurelia between Laigueglia and Andora, so this year we’re going back to the old route that we used to ride three years ago. In the last two editions there wasn’t much space from the final climb to the finish line, instead now we’re back to coming off the top with 30 kilometers left to go to the finish line. I think the various groups are going to mix it up; in the final there will be space to get reorganized and catch up with eventual attackers and fugitives.”

“We can affirm in no certain terms that the podium in Donoratico was like a victory for our squad,” explains team manager Ivan De Paolis. “It was a result that contributed to further boost the morale of the riders and all the Area Zero clan, and it especially helped us make a good impression in the eyes of our sponsors, who believed in us by investing time and resources in the Area Zero project. We were confident, we knew we had done some good work during the winter and the road and the race gave us the answers and the confirmation we were looking for. Now we have to continue in this direction and right now in these next few days we’re looking forward to some other important milestones, especially the one in Laigueglia where the race level will be at the very top.”

After the Trofeo Laigueglia Area Zero D’Amico will go on their first transfer abroad to participate in the GP Izola – Butan plin scheduled for Sunday, February 23rd on the roads of Slovenia. “This race is somewhat of a novelty; on paper the route doesn’t seem particularly difficult,” explains ds Codol. “The team framework will be more or less the same but we will officially announce the riders for this race only after the Laigueglia.”
