Area Zero D’Amico in Spain Again

Marco Tecchio and Stefano Tonin back in the pack

Area Zero D’Amico is the new and especially young continental team directed by team managers Ivan De Paolis and Andrea Tonti. They are continuing their adventure by setting off from Spain, participating in the Vuelta Castilla y Leon, the short stage race scheduled from Friday, the 16th to Sunday the 18th of May, in the Northeast of the Iberian Peninsula.

“We’re coming back to the races after almost a month away from competition,” explains Sports Director Massimo Codol. “This was not a break we wanted; unfortunately it was due to the cancellation of the Vuelta a Asturias, which was annulled by organizers at the last minute because of financial problems. However, the guys have continued their training regimen under close supervision by me and our trainer Paolo Santello. Morale is high and the guys can’t wait to get back to racing. The Vuelta Castilla y Leon will be the debut on Spanish roads for Area Zero.”

“This is a lovely race, and very challenging,” continues Codol. “The last time I raced here was in 2012 and I remember well that in this part of Spain the routes are quite hilly, with lots of climbs and very little flatland. The first stage should be adapted to sprinters but then the climbs begin and there will be plenty of room for attackers. The competition within the group will also be fierce, especially with the Spanish teams, which really want to do well on their hometown roads.”

“As far as our team is concerned, our point men will be Paolo Ciavatta and definitely also Simone Petilli, who already made some impressive uphill moves in the Coppi&Bartali. Also, Marco Tecchio is coming back to the group after having resolved some problems to his knee, and Stefano Tonin has recovered from the virus that debilitated him in the first part of the season. Both riders have already proven to be excellent assets” ends Codol.
