BEAT Cycling Club Wins Team Sprint World Cup Silver

BEAT Cycling Club improves team sprint again and reaches podium.

BEAT Cycling Club has won the silver medal in the team sprint event at the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester, England. Roy van den Berg, Matthijs Büchli and Theo Bos finished only 0.5 seconds behind the German national team to take second place in the final and take home the silver in the team sprint.

BEAT Cycling Club already wrote history last weekend with the team’s first participation as a UCI team in an event at the highest level, the Tissot UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Pruszków, Poland. That time, in the team sprint, Matthijs Büchli, Roy van den Berg and Theo Bos missed the final for bronze by only 0.005 seconds.

The BEAT Cycling Club track team was determined to build upon the fifth place of the week before in Poland. They proved this by qualifiying for the semifinals in a time of 43.544 seconds and beating that time in their semifinal against France by setting the second club record of the day in 43.380. In the final against Germany they stopped the clock at 43.542 seconds.

Theo Bos is proud of the result and the entire team sprint tournament: “We can look back at this result with pride, but we can definitely look back proudly at the times we put in today too. Especially the semifinal went perfectly. We got the maximum result today with this second place. A great base that we can build upon with the next event being the Dutch team sprint championships in Apeldoorn next Sunday.”

Coach Tim Veldt, reacted proudly to the medal: “We raced an amazing team sprint tournament today. In the final race, the tank was a bit too empty, but we can look back proudly at this very successful first day of the World Cup.”

Tomorrow Matthijs Büchli and Theo Bos will represent BEAT Cycling Club in the sprint at the World Cup. On Sunday, Büchli will again participate at the keirin and Bos will ride the 1 kilometer time trial.
