Belkin aims at continued Norwegian success
The Belkin Pro Cycling Team will travel to Norway for the third time this year. After the Glava Tour of Norway in May and the Arctic Race of Norway earlier this month, Belkin races the Tour des Fjords this weekend. Sports Director Jan Boven saw the team riding offensively in both races and wants to do the exact thing with the men he has at his disposal from Friday to Sunday.
“Michiel Elijzen did great with his boys in last week’s Arctic Race. I saw beautiful scenarios on television but most of all I saw a very strong Team Belkin,” Boven said. “The team attacked whenever and wherever they could, and although the Tour des Fjords runs over a more difficult parcours, I’d like to apply the same approach.”
Stay focused
Boven’s message to his riders is “stay focused.” “The first day is very difficult,” he continued. “You need to pay attention because a breakaway really stands a chance. If you are focussed, you can be a part of it and then the result can come by itself; you’ll automatically do well in the GC. We have two good climbers in Laurens ten Dam and Lars Petter Nordhaug, while in the Arctic Race Jetse Bol and Sep Vanmarcke proved to be very strong.”
Team time trial
The organisation scheduled a morning stage along with a team time trial in the afternoon on day two. Boven is looking forward to the race against the clock. “That’s going to be very interesting, especially with the world championships coming up.”
