Belkin: Hofland third in Sønderborg

The Belkin Pro Cycling Team anticipated the final of the Post Danmark Rundt stage two today in Sønderborg. The final kilometres were harder than expected and the team needed to shift leaders. Instead of Theo Bos, neopro Moreno Hofland finished the job and delivered.

The last kilometres were on a city circuit, which, with its many corners, caused a lot of trouble for the bunch. “It was constantly twisting and turning,” explained Hofland. “There was a high pace in the pack as we still had to catch some attackers. When that happened, someone immediately attacked and I jumped right with him. Along with a few others, we were able to stay away until the last kilometre. When we were reeled in, I didn’t see Theo and took my own chance.”

Third and success
In Sønderborg, Hofland crossed the line in third place behind winner Matti Breschel and his teammate Marko Trump. He kept a lot of fastmen behind him. Earlier this year, the young Dutchman also placed third in a stage in the Tour of Turkey. Personally, this podium spot in Denmark ranks a little bit higher. “This was a powersprint with almost a complete peloton. It was also slightly uphill. I like the fact I beat Cavendish and Farrar, that’s very nice.”

Wilco Kelderman, Team Belkin’s man for the general classification, showed he is ready for Friday’s hilly ride. He finished fifth, a good sign.
