Belkin on the hunt for more Scandinavian success
After Wilco Kelderman’s overall win in last week’s Post Danmark Rundt – Tour of Denmark, the Belkin Pro Cycling Team will aim to score in the Norway Arctic Race, August 8 to 11.
“We had a very good week in Denmark,” Elijzen explained. “It not only went smooth on the bike but the conditions were excellent as well. Denmark is a beautiful country with good hotels; I really liked it. I expect things to be similar in Norway.” Hopefully Team Belkin will enjoy similar success in the Norway Arctic Race as it did in the Post Danmark Rundt. Elijzen is optimistic. “We have a nice and all-round team. Moreno Hofland is strong in the bunch sprints, while Paul Martens and Sep Vanmarcke can handle the harder stages. And if they do well in those stages then they will automatically play a significant role in the overall classification.”
Nordhaug at home
The Norway Arctic Race is a home race for Lars Petter Nordhaug, but he doesn’t consider himself to be the star of the show. “This race isn’t really suited for me; I want to help my team-mates,” he explained. “It’s also my first race after the Tour de France. After two weeks of resting, I’m starting to prepare for the classics in Canada and the World Championships in Florence.”
Team line-up: Jetse Bol, Rick Flens, Moreno Hofland, Paul Martens, Lars Petter Nordhaug and Sep Vanmarcke – Sports Director: Michiel Elijzen.
