BMC Development Team’s Silvan Dillier Third In Gila Time Trial
Silvan Dillier earned the BMC Development Team’s second straight podium finish at Silver City’s Tour of the Gila Friday with third place in the Stage 3 Dan Potts Memorial Tyrone individual time trial.
Not Far Off The Best Time
Dillier powered his BMC timemachine TM01 along the 26-kilometer, out-and-back course to the fastest time until stage winner Tom Zirbel (Optum presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies) clocked 34:45, 10 seconds faster. Ben Day (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team) was five seconds off Zirbel’s time to take runner-up honors. “Silvan was really strong,” BMC Development Team General Manager Rik Verbrugghe said. “It was really windy and you have two climbs, so it’s not an easy time trial.” Stage 1 winner Janier Acevedo (Jamis-Hagens Berman presented by Sutter Home) remains the race leader while Dillier – winner of the Tour de Normandie in March – is now the BMC Development Team’s best-placed rider overall in 17th place, 2:14 behind. Verbrugghe said Arnaud Grand, winner of Thursday’s stage for the BMC Development Team, will look to protect the Grant County sprint jersey he earned that day. Saturday’s 69.5-km criterium in downtown Silver City features three bonus sprints while Sunday’s final stage is a mountainous, 161.9-km road race.
