Bracciale Del Cronoman: Giovanni Carboni 2nd in Perugia
Area Zero D’Amico rider now looks to Under 23 time trial at Italian national championships
In the Bracciale del Cronoman held today in Ponte San Giovanni (province of Perugia), Giovanni Carboni from Area Zero D’Amico took second place behind Italian Under 23 time trial champion Davide Martinelli (Colpack). Marlen Zmorka (Palazzago) was third.
“I’m happy. It’s a result that gives me confidence and morale and that rewards all the work I’ve put in so far in this discipline that I love,” explains Carboni, 18, from the Marche region. “I’ve worked a lot with the team on this, and I’d also like to thank the federation and Under 23 coach Marino Amadori, who invited me to participate in the national team training camp in Gabicce Mare at the end of April, focusing on the time trial. This is an important year for me. Every day represents a new discovery; every race, every experience teaches me something new. Now we’re looking forward to the Under 23 time trial at the Italian championships in two weeks in the Veneto, where I hope to ride a good race.”
“It’s an excellent result that confirms Giovanni’s ability against the clock, as well as the effort he’s putting into this specialty,” explains sports director Massimo Codol. “Let’s not forget that Giovanni is only 18, and this year he turned professional with our Continental team, coming directly from the junior category. He has already shown a lot of growth, and he is maturing month by month, demonstrating great potential and significant margins for development. We believe in him and are providing him our full support. Giovanni exemplifies the spirit of the Area Zero project, which is focused on the growth and development of our young riders. Last year at Monticelli Brusati, in the province of Brescia, he came in second at the junior national time trial championships, and I think he can perform well this year as well at the Under 23 level. Giovanni is a young man who deserves our admiration; in addition to his efforts on the bike, he is working hard to finish his studies. On June 18 he’ll start his final exams at the agricultural institute. He has almost passed his exams in the time trial; now the academic ones await him.”
