City of Albany Returns to Host the Southeast Regional Series
An abundance of popular performers and song writers have called Albany Ga. home – Ray Charles, Luke Bryan and even American Idol #11 winner Phillip Phillips. Albany returns as the home for hundreds of cyclists for the 2014 Southeast Regional Series (SRS) presented by Stan’s NoTubes. The series of five race weekends in Southern states kicks off May 17-18 in the “Good Life City” with the Begin, Believe, Become Albany Criterium & Road Race.
Saturday’s Albany Criterium offers a flat and fast course through downtown Albany. On Sunday, the rolling terrain of neighboring Leesburg, Ga. will be starting point of the Albany Road Race. The winding roads and scenic vistas are some of the best in the country. Cyclists look forward to the grueling yet beautiful race with enthusiasm for the competition. Last year approximately 300 cyclists participated in the races, including 88 riders in the Men’s Pro 1/2 Albany Road Race. This year look for 120 riders in the Men’s Pro 1/2 road race, including full teams from big regional squads like Stan’s NoTubes powered by Proferrin, United Healthcare of Georgia p/b The 706 Project, High Country Devo, Happy Tooth Elite Cycling Team, Lupus Racing Team and more. And watch all the women’s fields grow in 2014 as well!
The SRS is the only elite and amateur road series of events to offer points competitions spanning multiple states in one region. As a USA Cycling Regional Road Championship Series, SRS aims to attract elite level riders and teams throughout the Southeast. The series is managed by Start Smart Cycling.
Teams and individuals can register for the full series or single races. The fees begin at $125 for juniors who register for all five criterium events in the series. For adults, full series registration is $350 for each category – three Master’s divisions, four regular men’s divisions (Pro 1/2 to Cat 5) and two regular women’s division (Pro 1/2/3 and Cat 4).
Online registration for the Begin, Believe, Become Albany Criterium & Road Race closes May 16, but racers are encouraged to register early before fields close.
