Colbrelli 2nd in Volta Limburg

As last year, also in this edition of the dutch one-day race with finish line in Eisjden after 196km, Sonny Colbrelli sprinted 2nd beaten today by Moreno Hofland (Belkin). The #Greenteam tried in several way to win, with Boem who attacked with 45km to go and in the last lap with Canola that after strong solo-attack was caught only 1.5km to the arrival. For Colbrelli this is the sixth season podiums and the twelfth top-10.

The Volta Limburg Classic, one-day race with several uphills similar to Amstel Gold Race, started with an early breakaway of three riders that pulled away after several attacks. Behind the peloton led by Bardiani – CSF Pro Team managed easily the gap, never up two minutes.

In the second part of the race, the #Greenteam with the collaboration of Team Belking bridged the gap and after Berghuizen uphill with 45km to go, there was a new attack of seven riders included Nicola Boem.
The leading group gained about 0.30 seconds but the peloton behind with 30/35 riders caught them with 7km to go into the final circuit.

During the last lap, Canola made a great solo-attack with 5km to go, the peloton struggled to bridge and made it only 1.5km to the arrival.

The final sprint on a cobblestone straight with a smooth climb, saw Moreno Hofland (BEL) started a long rush with behind Finetto (NRI) and Sonny Colbrelli. The #Greenteam rider with 50 meters to go, came out from Hofland’s wheel and tried to pass him but he coudn’t, crossing the line in 2nd place as 2013 edition.

Sonny Colbrelli:”I knew the arrival and how to sprint, but Hofland showed to be the strongest today. I took his wheel in the last 200 meters, then with 50 to go I tried to pass him but he was too fast. It’s a pity because also last year I took the 2nd place and today I wanted win. Anyway I don’t regret, I gave all and also my teammates who today have been very strong”.

Mirko Rossato, Sport Director:”Afrer De Panne I wanted a reaction from the guys and I can say that it happened today. I think that Sonny conquered the best result, because watching the sprint Hofland was stronger. All the squad was great, they managed the race since the start, we sent Boem on attack with 45km to go and in the finale Canola tried to win with a solo-attack. Okay the victory didn’t arrive but I happy about squad’s attitude showed today”.

The Bardiani – CSF Pro Team will back to race next Saturday 12th for GP Cerami in Belgium.
