Coppi e Bartali: Simone Petilli Goes All the Way!

Area Zero D’Amico celebrates the orange jersey for best young rider.

There is major excitement in the house for casa Area Zero D’Amico. At the Settimana Ciclistica Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, Simone Petilli managed to hang in there, ending up at the top of the general classification as the best young rider in the race. After today’s conclusive time trial, from Pavullo to Castello di Montecuccolo, Dario Cataldo (Team Sky) was the winner, but Petilli is going home with the orange jersey for the best young rider.

“I am ecstatic, I was already happy when I managed to get this jersey on Friday in the second stage,” says Simone Petilli, neo-professional from Bellano (Lecco) born in 1993. “I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to hang on to in until the end. Yesterday I could count on the help of my team mates and today in the time trial I gave it everything I had and I did it! We are a really great group; passion, determination and friendship tie us together. This is an incredible joy for me and the entire team.”

“It was our debut in a stage race with a very young team who came here to gain some experience more than anything else,” explains team manager Andrea Tonti. “Area Zero is a young team, with a young project and it was able to get the jersey for best young rider, no less. We really couldn’t ask for anything more. Bravo Simone Petilli but bravo to all the group. Every race gives us new satisfaction and we hope to continue in this vein; I’m sure these guys are going to go far.”

May we remind the press that Area Zero D’Amico have set a date for tomorrow at 11: 30 at the QC Terme Milano (via Filippetti 41), where we will hold the official presentation for the team, introduce our project and the sponsors who are at the heart of the new adventure scored by Area Zero.
