What's Cool In Road Cycling

Elise Delzenne Ambitious for Track World Championships

The Track World Championships are coming up. From 2 to 6 March riders will battle in the velodrome in London for medals in several events. Elise Delzenne is definitely looking forward to it. This French rider is new in the Lotto Soudal Ladies team. In London she will start in the points race and individual pursuit.

Elise Delzenne: “The Track World Championships are a big goal of mine, I want to go home with a medal. I already collected some French titles and also finished in top three at the French Championships a few times, now I’m aiming for my first World Championships medal. I will ride the points race and individual pursuit in London, these aren’t Olympic events though. I won’t be going to Rio for the track races, but I hope to be selected for the road race. That is a main goal this season. I only took a look at the course online, it looks very difficult. Later down the season there are the World Championships in Qatar, I always like racing there.”

Last month Elise turned 27. The past years she conquered four national track titles. In 2014 she became French champion in the points race. Last year she succeeded in that again and also claimed the first place in the scratch race and individual pursuit. Three years ago Delzenne won the French road Championship. The past two seasons Elise rode for Specialized Lululemon and Velocio SRAM.

Elise Delzenne: “I chose for the Lotto Soudal Ladies because I will have more freedom here, especially to fulfil my track ambitions. Also because this is an Olympic year it’s important to have a free role. I have a bond with Belgium, I live close to the border and have raced here many times. This team has been in the peloton for several years now and I’m glad to be part of it. I am versatile, that’s my strength. I love racing on different types of courses, I am fast and can ride a good time trial as well.”
