For the first time a UCI professional continental team will participate at Race Horizon Park
For the first time over four years in the UCI status of Race Horizon Park the professional continental team Team Roth (Switzerland) applied for participation at the international cycling race, held on 27–29 May, Kyiv, Ukraine.
‘Every year the Race Horizon Park peloton grows up, and the major achievement — both in the quantitative and qualitative formats. Inasmuch as, starting from this year, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) allowed the participation of the teams from the professional division in the races of category 1.2. It will be a very fierce rivalry and high competition, this being just a plus to cycling, since the staginess of the May contests will be much more breathtaking,’ Chairman of the Race Horizon Park Organizing Committee and President of the Cycling Federation of Ukraine Alexander Bashenko comments.
Since the time of its creation in 2002, Team Roth ran a long way from the Italian amateur cycling club Marchiol-Hit Casino’s-Safi-Site-Frezza to continental team Marchiol Emisfero (2014) of the category U-23. In 2015 Marchiol-Emisfero team announced its merger with Roth-Felt. Under the name of Team Roth-Skoda the team get UCI license as a professional continental team. Now it’s named Team Roth.
Founded as a small national team in Switzerland, the team for the first time participated in the Europe Tour 2015, and performed very successively under the name of Team Roth-Skoda. During a year only, Team Roth made it into the second highest Pro-Continental division. It’s a great challenge both for sportsmen and personnel.
‘We want to take an active role in every race and show ourselves. Our goal must always be a place on the podium,’ Chief Manager of the Team Roth Stefan Blaser noted.
The important victories for the team were at the Italian cycling races Trofeo Edil C and Giro del Friuli (both in 2014), and Trofeo Alcide Degasperi (2015). In 2016 Team Roth racer gained silver at the race GP Adria Mobil (1.2) in Slovenia. This year a young Swiss team of pro-continental division was allowed to participate at the Tour de Suisse, along with 18 teams of the World Tour.
For the participation in Race Horizon Park 2016 with Team Roth the German sportsman Grischa Janorschke will come to Kyiv. In 2015 he rode in Kyiv for the Austrian team Team Voralberg. Last year, on the Ukrainian race Grischa celebrated his birthday, having finished sixth at the Horizon Park Maidan on May 30. Grischa Janorschke commented his participation at the the Race Horizon Park 2015: ‘A year ago I was standing here, on Maidan in Kyiv, with tents and barricades everywhere — a complex sensation, in a word. But today we rode along the same streets, Maidan, Khreshchatyk, now within the great road race. And, frankly speaking, this is a really very emotional moment, even to be here, though I’m not a Ukrainian. It’s pleasant to touch something that is objectively a part of the World and European history.’
For reference: the annual international road race Race Horizon Park, held during three days and falling on the Day of Kyiv, has already become a traditional and major sports event on Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square), in Khreshchatyk and the central streets of Kyiv. To participate at the road race of the UCI Europe Tour (category 1.2) 13 foreign teams have been already registered: Team Roth (Switzerland), ColoQuick Team (Denmark), Bliz-Merida Pro Cycling (Sweden), Astana City (Kazakhstan), Minsk Cycling Club (Belarus), Metalac Quick Kraljevo (Serbia), SKC Tufo Prostějov (Czech Republic), Tusnad Cycling Team (Romania, AC Sparta Praha (Czech Republic), Kuota – C.Paulino team (Spain), Dynamo Palmira Weltour (Ukraine), Promin (Ukraine), Amore & Vita – Selle SMP (Ukraine).
The program of the most prestigious Ukrainian race Race Horizon Park comprises the international road races: Horizon Park Race for Peace (27 May), Horizon Park Race Maidan (28 May) and Horizon Park Classic (29 May). Besides, within the race, the first cycling contests for women Horizon Park Women Challenge and VR Women ITT will be held, аs well as a traditional race for amateurs Horizon Masters Cup.
