Gazprom-RusVelo ends up Australian campaign with Herald Sun Tour

After Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race Russian team Gazprom – RusVelo will stay in the Australian state of Victoria to participate in the Herald Sun Tour stage race (category 2.1).

The race is named after the Melbourne Herald Sun daily newspaper. It has a long history and first event is dated by 1952. For many years the Herald Sun Tour was held in October and a few years ago the start was moved to February which only added to its popularity.

Renat Khamidulin, GM of Gazprom – RusVelo: «The Herald Sun Tour is the final event in our Australian racing calendar. This is a new experience for us, also knowing that locals are in great shape, they contested national championships not so long ago, but we are ready to compete. Great weather, a strong team – it is the best way to start the season».

The Herald Sun Tour consists of two kilometers prologue and four road stages. Two stages suits to puncheurs with good finishing acceleration, while the sprinters and climbers will have one stage each.

“It is always slightly nerve-wrecking before the start. The upcoming season will be very different from all my past experience before Gazprom – RusVelo. The Herald Sun Tour is a special race, the first stage race of the season. Many only start to get into shape, but I am sure that it will be a tough fight. I am happy to start the season in Australia and I will try to show my best”, – Pavel Brutt said on the upcoming Herald Sun Tour.

Team line-up: Pavel Brutt, Ivan Savitskiy, Sergey Nikolaev, Artur Ershov, Nikolai Trusov, Kirill Sveshnikov, Alexei Tsatevich.
