First two decades since its inception in 1973 the competition was among amateur riders. However, in the year 1993 the race rose up to the professional level. In 2005 it was awarded with the 1.1 category and in 2012 got the current name. As of today, Volta Limburg Classic is one of the most well-known one-day races in the Netherlands.

Cycling fans will probably recognize some of the hill climbs from Amstel Gold Race, the most prestigious Dutch cycling event, which will take place two weeks after Volta Limburg Classic. The route mostly appeals to hilly terrain specialists with a decent sprint abilities.

Line-up of Gazprom – RusVelo includes Pavel Brutt, the only Russian cyclist who won Vuelta Limburg Classic. He shared his thoughts prior to the start of 2017’s edition: “The victory on the Volta Limburg Classic is one of my most valuable achievements. I took it over in 2012. Though, the route was a bit easier back then from my perspective. I guess I can say that I know the local routes as the palm of my hand. But still we know that one-day races in northern Europe are often unpredictable. So we will act according to the situation and focus our efforts on the leader who will be in the better shape for this race.”

Gazprom – RusVelo line-up:
Igor Boev, Pavel Brutt, Ivan Savitskiy, Andrey Solomennikov, Evgeniy Shalunov, Alexander Porsev, Nikolay Trusov, Alexey Tsatevich.
