What's Cool In Road Cycling

HotChillee’s ALPINE CHALLENGE entries open 24 September 2014

Entries for HotChillee’s Alpine Challenge 2015, taking place on 9th to 13th September 2015, open at 14:00 BST on 24th September 2014 with the Early Bird entries. At 14:00 BST the following day entries will open to the general public.

Part of HotChillee’s Global Event Series, the three day event pushes riders mentally and physically, with a gruelling 8000+ metres of climbing over the 3 days. The route varies from year to year and incorporates some classic climbs from previous Tour de France stages.

The race village is based on the spectacular shores of Lac d’Annecy in the French Alps and is the start and finish venue every day. Riders, partners and families use this as a social meeting point and over the past years a great camaraderie has built up with riders of all abilities from all over the world sharing their experiences.

Riders have the opportunity of a social ride on Sign On day with the serious business starting the following day with a seeding prologue followed by three stages, covering 350km and nearly 8,000m of climbing. The most testing day in 2014 was Day 1, with the prologue (Col de la Forclaz at about 8%, peaking at 15%) and finishing on the top of Semnoz probably the most underrated mountain in Europe. The stage was 140km long and included 3,300m of climbing.

After the prologue riders are seeded into groups of similar ability and are able to compete for the leaders jerseys or just ride to become an Official Finisher. Each seeded group has complete professional support with lead cars, motos, paramedics, physios and experiences rolling road closures. This year the G!RO Cycles Leaders Jerseys were taken by Dave Dent and Kelli Bayliss.

Sven Thiele, founder of HotChillee said, “This has grown into a great end of season event with more and more riders bringing partners and even family along to enjoy the challenging riding, spectacular scenery and facilities that Annecy has to offer. Some riders have been back every year since we started and we look forward to providing another challenging event for 2015.”
