What's Cool In Road Cycling

How to Get the Most Out of Your Upcoming Cycling Trip

If you’re planning to go on a cycling adventure soon, you’re definitely not in the minority. Thousands of Australians cycle around the country, which can be a great way to check out new sights, meet new people, and have a trip of a lifetime. Whether it’s your first time taking your wheels on the road, or you’ve been on many a trip before, here are some tips on how to get the most out of your cycling extravaganza.

Know Your Route
Understandably, knowing your cycling route well in advance is essential for getting the most out of your trip. You need to map out exactly where you’re going, or you run the risk of getting lost. Sure, you can use your smartphone’s GPS to navigate you, but should you lose signal, you’ll be out in the cold in the middle of nowhere. When it comes to accommodation, you’ll need to figure out where the hotels are for you to get your head down for the night. Make sure you know your route inside out before your cycling trip commences.

Kit Yourself Out
While no one is saying you must dress head-to-toe in Lycra during your cycling trip, padding will provide comfort, and quick-wicking materials will keep you warm and dry. You must get yourself kitted out before your cycling trip begins. This includes getting a proper pair of cycling shorts, the right bike, as well as a gel seat cover. To protect you from the sun, cycle gloves are strongly recommended. If you’re unsure of what to buy, it’s wise to create a checklist.

Pack Carefully
When going on a cycling trip, you need to be mindful of what you bring with you. Of course, necessities like snacks, drinks, and sunscreen are a given, but you don’t want to bring everything but the kitchen sink. This is because you’ll have to lug everything around with you. Even if you’re taking your car with you, you need to fill it with the basics. You don’t want to leave anything important behind, so make sure you do a run through of what you need before heading out the door.

Keep Entertained
If you’re going on a long-distance cycling adventure, there will be downtime that you’ll want to make the most of. When you’re bedding down for the night, having something to keep you entertained is a must. Packing your smartphone or tablet will mean you can play on online games at jackpotjill, or surf through social media and YouTube.

Plan Food and Drink
As you cycle, you will burn tons of calories. This means you need to have a plan of what food and drink you’ll consume during your trip. Whether you stop off at local cafes and restaurants or have snacks to gorge on to keep you going, you need to factor this in before stepping onto the pedals. Make sure you have plenty of water with you to keep hydrated too.

Before you head out the door on your cycling trip, getting organised and referring to the guide above is important. Whether you’re staying close to home or venturing further afield, once you hit the open road, you’re sure to have a cycling adventure like no other.
