Iris Slappendel confirms move to Bigla Cycling Team

Dutch Champion looks for new challenge and opportunities

The Bigla Cycling team is happy to confirm the fourth new member of the team for the 2015 season, Iris Slappendel. The 29 year old is the reigning Dutch National Road Champion and describes herself as an all-rounder with good time trial ability and a valuable member for the team time trial and says her specialty is the northern European classics which she is looking forward to targeting.

“When it came to this decision to switch teams I was basically looking for a new environment and a more challenging one for myself,” Slappendel said.

“At Rabobank I played the same role in the team and with Bigla we will race different tactics which will give me more opportunities. I feel it’s a step in my career that I need right now. A change of environment is always good after a few years. It’s good to be surrounded by new management and new teammates, which can inspire and motivate you.”

Having confirmed the extension of the sponsorship for two more seasons, the team has already confirmed new riders Annemiek van Vleuten, Shelley Olds and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio.

“Iris is this kind of rider a team needs for many different disciplines. She will play a major role within our tactical ideas for how we want to approach races. Apart from this, Iris is one of the most experienced riders in the TTT. I was extremely pleased with her decision to join the team next year,” team manager, Thomas Campana said.

“The spring classics is important for me and I’m also thinking of the world team time trial championships in America. That’s a big goal,” Slappendel concluded.
