What's Cool In Road Cycling

#KeepChallenging: Technology Day a huge success

Yesterday, Team Giant-Shimano hosted their first #KeepChallenging: Technology Day at the Amstel Gold Race Experience in Valkenburg. Over 100 guests came to hear from some of the team’s partners and also from team experts. These include Giant and Shimano, explaining the benefits of their equipment and how we work together to challenge cycling; our nutrition and body care partner Born, representatives from our training facility in Limburg; and trainers and coaches including Sports Dietician, Rob van der Werf.

The day started off with a Twitter ride that proved successful with riders joining professionals including Sea Keong Loh and Kyara Stijns, with team car support and nutrition supplied by Born. Daan Olivier and Lars van der Haar were also present to support those riding with advice and riding tips.

The idea behind the #KeepChallenging: Technology Day is to show people how technology and innovation are key elements in the team’s elite sporting approach – to continually improve all elements including equipment, training techniques, nutrition and as a consequence the riders and the whole team.

The way the team, together with its partners, demonstrated this at the #KeepChallenging Day can be broken down into three parts: partners demonstrating how they constantly develop and improving high-tech products, such as our Giant bikes, Shimano components and Born nutrition; connecting with cycling enthusiasts, and then using our riders’ experience to put this all into practice.

Team Giant-Shimano General Manager, Iwan Spekenbrink said at the end of the evening: “Today has been very successful and it is great to see so many passionate followers of both the team and cycling in general present to hear what we have to say.

“In our way of working there is no finish line, both for Team Giant-Shimano and our partners. We work together to keep developing and to stay ahead. It is a common mentality and is why we must keep challenging in all that we do.

“The riders themselves are the perfect platform for us to showcase what we work for and to share their experiences and bring the passion to the public. We have already hosted events together with Giant in Australia and Dubai to connect with cyclists there, and together with our partners we expect more #KeepChallenging events to come, such as a teamwork day, women’s day and fan’s day.”

WorldTour rider, Daan Olivier was present at the #KeepChallenging day in a support role. He took the time to say: “It’s really great to see the amount of people out here for the Twitter ride today, riding their bike for a hobby. Everyone is really excited to be riding with the team alongside some of the pros, and to hear about the newest technology in cycling in the evening.”

Team Giant-Shimano and the #KeepChallenging Day partners – Giant, Shimano Vliegtickets.nl, Skoda, Born, Unigarant and Quick – say a big thank you to all the fans and cycling enthusiasts who joined them in making the first #KeepChallenging event a huge success.
