LAMPRE-MERIDA selection for Classicissima

On Sunday 23 March team LAMPRE-MERIDA will take part in Milano-Sanremo.

The technical staff selected these riders: Matteo Bono, Davide Cimolai, Sacha Modolo, Manuele Mori, Filippo Pozzato, Maximiliano Richeze, Diego Ulissi, Luca Wackermann.

Team will be directed by Orlando Maini, who’ll receive the support by masseurs Capelli, Del Gallo and Della Torre, by mechanics Bortoluzzo, Pengo, Possoni, by doctor Beltemacchi and by driver Bozzolo.

During the twenty-one seasons in pro cycling, the team won Classicissima once thanks to Fondriest (1993). Moreover, one blue-fuchsia-green cyclist has already rules the race (Pozzato in 2007), while another one was close to the podium in his debut in the race (Modolo, 2010).

Filippo Pozzato knows how to win Milano-Sanremo: “Intense work during winter, perfect knowledge of the course and quick reaction in every moment of the race.

The course, that is like 2007 edition one, is suitable for pure sprinters. I had already studied well Pompeiana climb, but it won’t be in the course, so it will necessary to evaluate which will be the plot of the race considering these new conditions.

Weather will be also a main element: past year edition was so unusual because of the snow, this year weather forecast says it will be better, but there could be rain.

Team is complete and competitive enough to be in the heat of the race in every moment.
I’m well motivated, Sanremo is a charming race and I’d really like to live again the feelings I lived when I won this race”.

Modolo approaches Classicissima after an amazing start of the season (four victories): “I really like Milano-Sanremo, this feelings started immediately during my debut in 2010.

If you want to be in the final part of the race with chance of victory, it’s necessary to pay attention in every meter of the course.

I’m lucky because I really like long distances, so I’m not scared by the almost 300 km of Sanremo”.

Ulissi will be a top outsider: “The course, in the old version, is potentially not so suitable for attackers or for riders that would try to anticipate the sprinters.

Actually, Milano-Sanremo is characterized by so many variables that many solution could be possible.

For me, maybe it’s still too early to say I can win this race, but I’d like to give my support to my team mates or to try to make my move if there would be the chance”.
