Lotte Kopecky to make her début at Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

Tomorrow the road season begins for the Lotto Soudal Ladies team. Six riders will stand at the start of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. One of these six women is Lotte Kopecky, who won the omnium at the World Cup Track in Cali last weekend. It will be the début of the 21-year-old in the Omloop.

The race officially starts in Drongen and ends after 124 kilometres in Ghent. The route runs over nine hills, starting with Nokereberg after almost 28 kilometres. The Molenberg is the last hill, at 35 kilometres from the finish. Afterwards, three cobblestone sections are lying on the course: Paddestraat, Lippenhovestraat and Lange Munte. There are no more obstacles in the last twenty kilometres. The riders only have to battle against their opponents and the weather elements.

Lotte Kopecky: “The first road race of the year is always exciting. It’s the first time that I will ride the Omloop. The past years, my road season always started later. The track calendar is different this season and that’s why my road season starts earlier.”

“I did a recon of the Omloop before I left for Cali. I expect the action will begin when we get to the Côte de Trieu and Paterberg, halfway the race. Before that point, the race will be rather closed, I think. The Paterberg is one of my favourite hills, so that’s an advantage. Boels Dolmans and Wiggle High5 will definitely animate the race. Boels Dolmans starts with six potential winners. I expect both teams to take control of the race.”

“We start with three new riders: Annelies Dom, Trine Schmidt and Kaat Van der Meulen. Annelies and Kaat showed in Cali that they are in a good shape, while Trine did very well on training camp earlier this month. I am looking forward to racing on the road with my new teamies.”

“I hope I have recovered enough from my trip to Cali and that I can give all I got tomorrow. I don’t want to predict a result. I will be satisfied when I have a good feeling in my first road race of the season. No doubt, the weather will play a role. I don’t mind rain at all, that might be an advantage for me.”

Line-up Lotto Soudal Ladies:
