Kopecky wins Trofee Wynants

Lotte Kopecky won the Trofee Maarten Wynants (UCI 1.2) this afternoon. The race consisted of twelve laps of ten kilometres and was the fifth race of the Lotto Cycling Cup. Last year Kopecky was already second in the Trofee Maarten Wynants. Today she beat Lauren Kitchen and Kelly Druyts in the sprint.

Lotte Kopecky: “Today we animated the race with the entire team. We attacked a lot and responded to attempts of others. I got in front with a group of five, but we didn’t work together quite well. In the last lap my teammate Chantal Hoffmann got in a break, but other teams closed the gap. Ann-Sophie Duyck of Topsport Vlaanderen did a last attempt, but still the race ended with a sprint.”

“I was on the wheel of my teammate Elise Delzenne and 200 metres before the finish line I started sprinting. I was confident, but you still need to be able to finish it off and luckily I did. The team was really strong today, we couldn’t have done it better. Afterwards sports director Liesbet De Vocht bought us an ice-cream, we had deserved that. The next weeks I will ride some kermesses in Belgium and on 29 May I will start in Gooik-Geraardsbergen-Gooik. I want to set a good result in that race.”
