Lotto Belisol: Jurgen Van den Broeck crashes in Tirreno-Adriatico

Jurgen Van den Broeck and Bart De Clercq crashed today in the second stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. Both Lotto Belisol riders were involved in a crash at twelve kilometers from the finish. While De Clercq seems to be spared from any injury, Jurgen Van den Broeck has a deep, horizontal cut at the inside of his right knee. It’s the same knee he injured last year in a crash in the fifth stage of the Tour de France.

The cut was stitched twice and above as well as below a wound was stitched twice. Considering it’s a horizontal and stitched wound, it’s impossible for VDB to continue Tirreno-Adriatico. So Van den Broeck is forced to return to Belgium. One of the following days he will be examined at the hospital of Herentals to see if there are any more injuries.
