Mark the Date with Sidi on the Roads of Tuscany in the ‘Strade Bianche’
In Siena the professional race is on Saturday, March 9th, and the Gran Fondo will be on Sunday the 10th.
This will be a week-end that cycling fans won’t want to miss. The big event will take place in Siena, Tuscany, a region where cycling is part of the culture. The thirteenth edition of the “Strade Bianche” race will take place on Saturday, March 9th. This is the Europe’s most southern Northern Classic. Departure and arrival of the race are in the famous “Città del Palio”. The race will cover a 184 km-long route with no less than 11 stretches of dirt roads for a total of 63 km.
18 World Tour teams will be lining up for the start, and Sidi will be paying particular attention to our teams, on which all the riders use Sidi shoes. There is team Bahrain-Merida, where top riders for this challenge include famous names like “the Shark” Vincenzo Nibali and Slovenian Matej Mohoric and; there is also team Katusha Alpecin, with Enrico Battaglin and Nathan Haas.
Looking over the start list, another Sidi champion to keep an eye on will be Gianni Moscon. The rider from Trentino who races for Team Sky has said that this race is a dream of his and he wants to try to win it. Moscon will also be one of the most anticipated riders on the roads of the Northern Classics, including the Ronde Van Vlaanderen and the Paris-Roubaix. In the past Sidi has already won this fascinating race many times, for example in 2013 with Moreno Moser and then with Michal Kwiatkowski in 2014 and 2017.
Meanwhile, among the wild card professional squadrons invited by the race organizers, Sidi is confident in our guys on team Neri Sottoli Selle Italia Ktm, with a headliner like Giovanni Visconti. The “Strade Bianche Women Elite” will also be held on Saturday. Sidi and our lady athletes will definitely be contenders in this professional women’s race, which will cover a 134 km route.
Then the following day, on Sunday, March 10th, more than 5 thousand amateurs and cycling tourists will come together to take on the “Gran Fondo Strade Bianche”, an event which will take enthusiasts over part of the same route covered by the pros.
Sidi will be “on the field” for all the events, both on Saturday at the professional races as well as Sunday’s Gran Fondo. The Sidi stand will be set up in the expo area for the event, near the Stadium at the Medicea Fortress. This is where riders will sign in and get processed, and all the events – the pro races and the gran fondo – will set off from here.
At the Sidi stand visitors can get a close look and touch the shoes from Sidi’s 2019 collection, which include the top models for road cycling, the Shot and Wire 2 Carbon, as well as mountain bike models like the Tiger and Drako. Furthermore, plenty of Sidi champions from today and yesteryear will be taking turns stopping by the Sidi stand to sign autographs and take pictures with all attending fans.
