Meurisse again on podium in Dwars door Vlaamse Ardennen

After a very offensive race Xandro Meurisse finished 2nd in Dwars door de Vlaamse Ardennen (1.2, 10/06). Meurisse was strong on the famous cobbled climbs Taaienberg, Muur and Bosberg and formed a break with 3 other riders with 70km to go. A few riders were able to return on the flat, Jérôme Baugnies was one of them. Australian Cameron Meyer, last year active for Dimension Data, accelerated with 30km to go. He could hold on till the finish. Meurisse kept chasing and accelerated with Maxime Vantomme. In the sprint Meurisse was stronger. He thus obtained a 5th podium spot this year. Jérôme Baugnies finished 4th.

Xandro Meurisse: “I rode a very offensive race. During 150 kilometers I was in the front. I felt one of the strongest today. On the climbs I rode a good pace and I didn’t really save myself. Because of that maybe I lacked a bit of freshness in the end. But Meyer was strong, he rode solo for almost 30km. And we even kept a good pace behind him!”

“This morning I had some doubts after riding in Gippingen on Thursday. But it seems I recovered well. A fifth podium spot shows I am doing well. I hoped to take a first victory today. Anyway, I look with confidence forward to Ster ZLM Toer. On the arrival on La Gileppe I want to try something.”
