Michael Mørkøv targeting Vuelta stage finale

Team Saxo-Tinkoff’s Danish national road race champion, Michael Mørkøv has just been picked out for the Vuelta a Espana line-up, starting August 25th. Here, he talks about his experiences in the Tour of Denmark and his objectives in the three-week long Vuelta:

“I have been training hard in July to get ready for the Tour of Denmark where I had hoped for peak shape. But personally, I actually did not obtain my goals in the race. I had hoped for a better overall result for me and the GC was my main target before the start of the race. Fortunately, Matti was really strong and we supported him 100% through the race, and I reckon it was one of the races where our teamwork made a huge difference. It was a great honour and a memorable experience wearing the Danish national jersey. A lot of fans recognized me wearing the red and white colours screaming my name on the course, which gave me goose bumps, “says Michael Mørkøv.

The Dane is making his first appearance in Vuelta a Espana starting 25th of August. Previously, Mørkøv has done Giro d’Italia twice and once he has completed the Tour de France. Therefore, he’s looking forward to take on the challenges in Spain:

“I’m really looking forward to doing the Vuelta. My personal goal in Spain is quite simply to get to a spot in a finale on one of the stages. It would be huge. In addition, I’m going to help out on the flat stretches and make sure that our GC riders remains well protected so they can save energy for the mountain battles, “says Michael Mørkøv.
