PR and Marketing Manager – Veit Hammer
“It’s a great pleasure for me to join MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung. With its charity background the team is outstanding within the world of professional cycling. I think the project is quite interesting and it motivates me that I will be able to help the needy in Africa through my everyday work. Talking to other people in the team I feel that we share the same clear goals. In terms of marketing and communications it’s one of my main objectives to create an exceptional media and fan experience. I’m very much looking forward to start working with the team, its partners and its fans.”
General Manager – Brian Smith
“I have known Veit for only a couple of years but his enthusiasm and new ideas shine through immediately. We are not just looking for experience within MTN Qhubeka moving forward but people that are forward thinking and want to change cycling for the best in the future. Veit has the drive and determination that will compliment our team as we plan to be the most fan friendly team in the peloton.”
Team MTN-Qhubeka was founded in 2007, steadily working its way up from a regional team to now being a Continental Pro team with bases in South Africa and Italy. MTN-Qhubeka’s goal is to give talented African riders a path into the pro peloton while raising funds for the Qhubeka charity.
Qhubeka is an Nguni (Zulu, Xhosa) word that means “to carry on”, “to progress”, “to move forward”. Qhubeka (qhubeka.org) helps people move forward and progress by giving bicycles in return for work done to improve communities, the environment or academic results. Having a bicycle changes people’s lives by increasing the distance they can travel, what they can carry, where they can go and how fast they can get there.
