Nibali will return to racing at Giro di Toscana

After the Bergen’s World Champs, Team Bahrain Merida will be next Tuesday at the start of Giro di Toscana. Two stages and after on Thursday the boys will face the 65th edition of the Coppa Sabatini.

Vincenzo Nibali will take part of Giro di Toscana. “I’m back to races after the second place at Vuelta – tells the Italian rider – and I’m still recovering after the crash but I can say that my the condition is improving. I’m happy to go back to Tuscany because I have a lot of fans and also is my second bicycle home.”

Great expectations also for Sonny Colbrelli, who will try to win Coppa Sabatini for the third time after his successes in 2014 and last year’s edition. “On Sunday I ran well but I missed the final, I’m in a very good shape and I would like to win another Italian race after Coppa Bernocchi few days ago.”

In detail, the race program provides on 26 September the Giro di Toscana’s first stage with start and finish in Pontedera after 181 km. The next day, with a much more demanding route, the second stage with arrival in Volterra with the steep climb that from Saline di Volterra leads into the center of this small medieval jewel. On September 28th, however, it will be the time for the classic Coppa Sabatini that will be a hunting ground for rugged and fast riders. 195 km long track with the traditional wavy route between the Pisan hills.

At the start also some riders who have run Vuelta: Antonio Nibali, Franco Pellizotti and Giovanni Visconti, who in his career took his first victory among the pro riders at the Sabatini in 2006. With them also the Slovenian Grega Bole, Enrico Gasparotto, Tsgabu Grmay and young Andrea Garosio who will be responsible for helping team leaders.

“We have a very competitive team,” says SD Alberto Volpi. “Who can really do well in both races. Vincenzo will be our captain at the Toscana, with Sonny who will be able to win the first stage. For the Coppa Sabatini, however, the leader will always be Sonny with Giovanni and Enrico as outsiders.”
