What's Cool In Road Cycling

Olga Zabelinskaya third in queen stage, retains the lead in the general standings

RiuVelo rider Olga Zabelinskaya impressed once more in the Vuelta Feminina a Costa Rica finishing third in the hardest stage and strengthening her grasp on the leader’s jersey with a time gap to the closest rival of more than 1,5 minutes.

Mikhail Rostovtsev, RusVelo DS, says: “The team did what it takes to control the race in these last two stages. In stage four we changed the tactics coming up to the final mountain which was 10 km long and had steep parts with a gradient of around 18%. Having dictated a fast tempo, then we organized a series of attacks to isolate Shelly Olds as the most dangerous opponent that worked well. Thumbs up to Elena Kuchinskaya and Aizhan Zhaparova who were excellent at the front, the rest of the girls also do their utmost despite the fact that they have intestinal problems to deal with. Coming into the last stage we are determined to keep the jersey and the yellow numbers of the leaders in the team standings”.
