What's Cool In Road Cycling

One-two for RusVelo in the 1st stage of GP of Sochi

RusVelo riders Sergey Lagutin and Ilnur Zakarin came in first and second in the opening stage of GP of Sochi. The 185 roller-coaster course brought about a serious selection, resulting in an escape of seven riders, three of them in RusVelo colors. The Ukrainian Vitaly Buts rounded off the top-3; yet another RusVelo rider Roman Maikin crossed the line third.
Alexander Efimkin, a team DS, said:

“When Sergey Lagutin first rode up to the team car, he breathed out the phrase which says it all: “It’s not that easy”. To hear something of this kind from a rider of this class and strength gives you an idea of how hard the race really was. Side wind was so strong that you could call it a storm. Throw in the hilly character of the course, and you get the picture of an ideal setting for attacks. The breakaway earned a very serious gap of minutes. What made me happy is the way the whole of RusVelo squad rode – all for one and one for all. It was cycling as a team sport at its best”.
