What's Cool In Road Cycling

Pogacar’s Early Career is Nothing Short of Impressive

Viewed as a young adult in society, people in their early twenties are considered babies to those that are older. Many wish they could relive their twenties as it is usually a time to be carefree and learn about yourself and the world.

Do you remember your life as a 22-year-old? For some, we were stepping into the real world after finishing higher education. At that age, you’re still making mistakes and hoping to learn from them But for others, you’re on the verge of winning your second Tour de France.

Tadej Pogacar is viewed as an infant in society but is nothing short of a dominating menace in the world of cycling. At the age of 22, Pogacar has come onto the professional cycling scene and has accomplished accolades some could only dream of. He won the Tour de France in 2020, becoming the first Slovenian to do so.

If Pogacar manages to win his second Tour de France, that would put him in elite company already. Some of the best cyclists in history, like Alberto Contador, Bernard Thevenet and Ottavio Bottecchia have all picked up two Tour de France wins. Of course, other cyclists have more wins under their belt, but that second victory puts Pogacar in elite company.

While consecutive Tour de France wins aren’t necessarily rare, it’s still an incredible feat, especially as a young cyclist. Pogacar is already one of the youngest cyclists to ever win the Tour de France and presumably has a long and illustrious career ahead of him.

Pogarcar’s dominance in the early days of professional cycling was just a glimpse into his talent. He joined the WorldTour in 2019 and is already one of the most accomplished cyclists on the tour.

In 2020, Pogacar took home the white jersey for the Tour’s best young rider, as well as the polka-dot jersey for best climber. His yellow jersey was the cherry on top to an impressive first win of the Tour de France. The only other racer to ever win three jerseys in the same Tour was Eddy Merckx. While Pogacar still has a long way to reach the achievements of Merckx, he is in good company to start his career.

For those betting on the Tour, you know that Pogacar is the heavy favorite to win the event at this stage. Betway Sports has the 22-year-old at -2000, with Jonas Vingegaard coming in at second at +1600.

Pogacar is dominating other potential wagers as well. Betway Sports has Pogacar at -6600 to win the 2021 Young Rider jersey once again. Pogacar is so special that you can bet on the winner without him being in the equation. Essentially you can wager on who you think would win the Tour de France if Pogacar was not competing.

If that’s not a prestigious level of respect from oddsmakers, I don’t know what is.

The Tour de France will continue to see young riders win the event, that’s a given. However, we’re seeing something special with every leg Pogacar rides in. It may be daring to say, but Pogacar’s current trajectory in the sport is unmatched. When watching Pogacar race, you’re witnessing something special.

We’re at the beginning of Pogacar’s career and he is already a remarkable racer. To think he is only 22-years-old makes his current achievements and potential even more staggering.

Tons of sports feature young athletes that dominate at a young age, but Pogacar is a boy among men and is riding like a legend at the infancy of his career. The sky is the limit for the Slovenian rider and his potential is currently incalculable.

Pogacar was the stage 5 winner of the 2021 Tour and he has flashed his brilliance in every stage. His consistency is one of the focal points and what makes him such a treat to watch.

Once described as a young prodigy, his explosiveness at the highest stage puts Pogacar as one of the top racers in the world, currently. For those that follow different sports, we’re witnessing a future hall-of-famer that has years ahead of him. While the beginning of his career has been astonishing, one can only guess as to what he has up his sleeve through his career.

Pogacar has lived up to the hype and is well on his way to another Tour de France victory. The young Slovenian’s career should be one to witness and we’re just happy to be along for the ride.
