Pohl extends contract, changes focus to the road in 2017

Stephanie Pohl has extended her contract with the Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team. The decision also sees her approaching 2017 with more of a focus on the road discipline with her track ambitions taking a backseat for most of next year.

A former World Champion in the points race, Pohl says her ambitions on the track were working up towards the Rio Olympic Games and she’s ready to change focus with new goals on the road.

“It was clear to me that I would like to remain in the Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team,” Pohl said. “It was an easy decision and I am very proud to be part of the team next year again.

“During the last years, I concentrated on the track. In 2017 I would like to develop, strengthen my team and focus fully on the road. In October, the European Track Championships track are in Berlin and that will be my next track goals only.”

She continued: “The atmosphere of the team has an unbelievable energy. Our team spirit is great and everybody fights for one another.”

Pohl has made a big impact in the team while riding in support of team leaders this year. A second place in the prologue of Giro della Toscana, second in the German national time trial championships and top 10 on the overall classification in Auensteiner-Radsporttage speaks of her talent.

“I’ve known Stephie for a long time. When she was 21 she was already at a high level and she decided to commit fully to the track,” Team Manager, Thomas Campana said.

“When we had the opportunity to sign her to our team at the end of last year, it was my view to find out how good she could be on the road. My belief in her is not only as a very good helper but we believe she can win races on a high level on the road. She has the quality to do this.

“This year she had a dual program on the track and the road so she couldn’t unfold her full potential but next year she is 100% committed to the road. We will see what happens but I’m completely convinced if she stays healthy, she will be successful,” Campana said.
