Rapha Condor JLT: Tour Series Round 9

Rapha Condor JLT’s Ed Clancy took the team’s fourth individual win of the 2013 Tour Series in Woking last night.

The win – Clancy’s third of this year’s series – took the double Olympic champion’s total win tally in the Tour Series to six, making him the most successful individual rider ever in the series.

Team manager John Herety was delighted by Clancy’s performance.

“We really didn’t expect to win tonight, especially as Ed in particular has never previously gone well here in Woking. He’d also been tired from his efforts on the track last week and struggled at the Nocturne on Saturday, but he really came round tonight.”

The race saw plenty of action throughout but no moves were able to break the stranglehold of the active peloton, eventually coming down to a full bunch sprint on the tight Woking circuit.

“The team rode well, but in the end Ed looked after himself and managed to get onto the UK Youth leadout with a lap to go. Once he kicked for the finish no one could get near him.”

“The team are starting to feel the effects of four weeks of racing now, Felix struggled a little tonight, but no one is looking that fresh at this point. Kristian proved he is still going well, and he’s hungry for it. I was pleased with Ed Laverack’s performance tonight too.”

“We’ve taken four wins, but we’d still love a team win this year, and there is a chance to move up to third overall as well, so still a lot to play for.”

The team took 3rd place on the night, and the Men in Black still sit two points behind 3rd overall in 4th place. The Tour Series concludes this week with the tenth round on Thursday night in Aylsham before the series finale in Ipswich on Friday night.

Highlights of round nine will be shown on ITV4 at 10pm tonight.
