What's Cool In Road Cycling

Ride the Pordoi with the Tour de Pologne Challenge Trentino

Saturday, June 6, is the first edition of the amateur race in Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa organized by the Tour de Pologne

To cycling fans, Passo Pordoi and the Dolomites mean excitement and epic rides. Saturday, June 6, is the date of the first edition of the Tour de Pologne Challenge Trentino, a race for amateur cyclists and enthusiasts organized by the Lang Team in collaboration with Trentino Marketing (the destination marketing organization for the Trentino area). The event celebrates the extraordinary experience in 2013 when the Tour de Pologne (UCI WorldTour) chose to start in Trentino with two beautiful Dolomite stages, the first finishing at Madonna di Campiglio (where the Giro d’Italia will arrive in a few days) and the second finishing on top of the legendary Passo Pordoi, a global cycling mecca.

The route. The race starts in Cavalese and finishes on Paso Pordoi, for a total of 75 km along the Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa with climbs of Passo Pampeago and Passo Costalunga. It is a challenging but scenic route in the heart of the Dolomites, passing over the roads used in the 2013 Tour de Pologne stage and climbs frequently featured in the Giro d’Italia.

A race packet worthy of champions! The first 500 riders to register will receive a beautiful bag containing the official Tour de Pologne cycling jersey by Quest and Vitarade supplements. The first 200 to register will also receive a special photo album of the best photos of the history of the Tour de Pologne. Every participant will receive the official medal as a fine souvenir of this day of epic riding in the Dolomites.

The registration fee is 30.00 euros.

“Trentino and the Tour de Pologne have had a strong partnership for many years, and in 2013 we were able to realize our dream of bringing the Tour de Pologne to climb the Dolomite passes,” said Czeslaw Lang, director general of the Tour de Pologne. “We hope it will happen again, but in the meantime we have decided to commemorate that experience with an event open to all fans. The Tour de Pologne Challenge Trentino is not only a race but aims to be a celebration. It’s an opportunity to allow everyone, but especially Poles who come to Trentino, to get to know and appreciate these wonderful places by bicycle.”

On the occasion of the race, two plaques celebrating the visit of the 2013 Tour de Pologne to the Dolomites will be unveiled, one on Passo Pampeago and one at the finish at the top of the Pordoi.

“Cycling is one of Trentino’s outstanding summer tourist offerings,” said Michele Dallapiccola, head of tourism and promotion for the autonomous province of Trento. “In the organizers of the Tour de Pologne we have found a high-level partner that can open the door to new opportunities and new projects in Poland, which represents the second most important foreign market for Trentino.”
