RTC Viva Bike Vegas 2013 recognized as one of the top 10 U.S. Gran Fondos
Annual cycling event in Las Vegas continues to grow in stature and popularity with prominent sponsors, charities and professional cyclists like Miguel Indurain.
LAS VEGAS – The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s (RTC) Viva Bike Vegas 2013 Gran Fondo Pinarello Sponsored by Zappos.com continues to grow and was recently recognized as one of the “Top 10 U.S. Gran Fondos” by Outside MagazineOutside Magazine, a national active-lifestyle and adventure-travel magazine. The list also recognized other popular Gran Fondos including: Campagnolo Gran Fondo New York, Echelon Gran Fondo Sonoma-Napa, Chicagoland Gran Fondo and more.
Set for Saturday, Sept. 21, organizers for this year’s ride expect it to be better than ever.
“Each year we continue to see success with this ride, including last year’s event which attracted riders from all over the U.S. and internationally from countries like England, Spain and Canada,” said Tina Quigley, general manager for the RTC, the agency which produces the marquee cycling event in Southern Nevada. “To be recognized as a ‘Top 10 Gran Fondo’ is a great honor and opportunity for us to help further promote the growth of cycling in Southern Nevada through this event.”
Further raising the event’s profile within the cycling industry, this year mega Internet retailer, Zappos.com joined the event as the platinum title sponsor. Zappos joins world-renowned bicycle manufacturer, Pinarello, which is also a title sponsor of Viva Bike Vegas.
Last year’s event allowed cyclists to ride with five-time Tour de France champion and two-time Giro d’Italia winner, Miguel Indurain. Indurain is just one of several professional cyclists and athletes who have come to Las Vegas for the epic cycling event.
RTC Viva Bike Vegas 2013 Gran Fondo Pinarello Sponsored by Zappos.com also continues its partnership with Interbike, the largest bicycle trade event in North America that gathers close to 24,000 attendees annually. Riders who register for RTC Viva Bike Vegas online at www.vivabikevegas.com will receive an exclusive discount to attend Interbike at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
Space is limited for this unique cycling experience, and online registration at vivabikevegas.com will close a week before the event, on Sept. 14.
Proceeds from the 6th annual Viva Bike Vegas will benefit local charities, including the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, After-School All-Stars Las Vegas, Communities in Schools of Nevada and Nevada Child Seekers. Additionally, Viva Bike Vegas is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training (TNT) second largest cycling event in the nation. TNT cyclists span the nation from Alaska to Florida, and generations, from 20-somethings to octogenarians.
Routes for all skill levels are offered, including a 104-mile Gran Fondo, a 61-mile Metric Century, and a 17-mile ride. All routes begin under the lights of the famous Las Vegas Strip and go through downtown Las Vegas. The longer routes will traverse the beautiful Las Vegas Valley bringing riders into the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and near Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Along the course, aid stations will also incorporate Las Vegas-themed entertainment, who will be handing out water and snacks to the riders. The event culminates with a festival at Town Square Las Vegas, where riders can enjoy lunch and family-friendly entertainment.
