Rusvelo women team riders in the track nationals
Today is the first day of the Russian track national championships. Most of Rusvelo women’s team riders, registered for their respective regional squads, will take part in the endurance events.
Mikhail Rostovtsev, DS: “Apart from Olga Zabelinskaya, Tatiana Antoshina and Yulia Blindyuk, all the team’s riders have been training and racing in St Petersburg for a couple of weeks. Anastasia Chulkova has already qualified for the World Championships, and yet she is planning to participate in several events. Team pursuit remains one of our top priorities, as an opportunity to delegate at least two girls into the national team. The fight for the medals in this event will start on Friday, and we are determined to show what we are capable of at the moment. The lead-up has been anything but smooth, all the riders except Aizhan Zhaparova caught a respiratory virus, and they are still struggling to get rid of it. Still we need these championships, no matter how close to the top or far from it our results will be. We’ve got a grueling schedule of racing starting from the beginning of February. We’ll race in Qatar and Latin America, and it is sure to be hot in every sense of the word from the word go. So we just need to be ready to really high speeds, and the track events help us quite a lot with this.”
