SRS Cycling Leaderboard Takes Shape in Huntsville
With the second big race weekend of the year just concluding in Huntsville, Alabama, the overall leaderboard for the 2014 Southeast Regional Series presented by Stan’s NoTubes (SRS) is taking shape. Top teams from Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee brought full squads to Rocket City to race in nearly perfect weather conditions June 14-15. This was the first year that SRS has been held in Huntsville for the inaugural Jerry Damson Honda/Acura Criterium and the Ronde van Grant Road Race presented by New Belgium Beer.
SRS not only attracts the top riders and teams from across the Southeast, but also showcases the classic terrain in the region. The challenging 1.4-mile climb on Gunter Mountain, known as ‘Grunt’ Mountain by local riders, was used as the finish for Sunday’s Ronde van Grant Road Race presented by New Belgium Beer. Hilly terrain across Grant Mountain and a scenic setting along the Paint Rock River in Grant, Ala. were part of the 19-mile loop used for 9 categorized road races. The Men’s Pro 1/ 2 road race was won by Winston David (Greenville, S.C.) of CRCA/Lupus Racing Team. The road race for the Pro 1/2/3 women was won by Susan Jones-Morgan (Simpsonville, S.C.) racing for Team Zoom.
