What's Cool In Road Cycling

Strong Eight Men Squad

On Sunday team Wanty-Groupe Gobert will ride Dwars door West-Vlaanderen Johan Museeuw Classics (UCI 1.1 – 05/03). This race features as the second round in the Napoleon Games Cup where Guillaume Van Keirsbulck is the leader in the overall standings after his win in Le Samyn on Wednesday. Besides him sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren does appeal on Frederik Backaert, Kenny Dehaes, Wesley Kreder, Xandro Meurisse, Yoann Offredo, Andrea Pasqualon and Pieter Vanspeybrouck.

Pieter Vanspeybrouck: “The opening weekend in Belgium was a disappointment for me. After a crash in Omloop I suffered from a locked pelvis. In Kuurne on Sunday I wasn’t recovered and also in Le Samyn on Wednesday I suffered in the bad weather circumstances. I went for a treatment with a physiotherapist and today (Friday) I trained firmly for three hours. Now I no longer suffer from my injury. I hope it will be the same on Sunday.”

“The course of Dwars door West-Vlaanderen is quite tough. We ride through open plains in the direction of Kemmelberg. The wind is an important factor over there. After the hill zone we head for Ichtegem at full speed. The local lap consists of narrow roads where you always have to be in front. We have a strong delegation on Sunday. Van Keirsbulck, Backaert and Offredo are in good shape. We must rely on our own strength and try to make the race hard. I expect a group of only 40 up to 50 riders together at the end. We can always rely on our fast guy Pasqualon if he is there in the end.”
