What's Cool In Road Cycling

Super Purito is Back on Top!

For Joaquim Rodriguez two stages and the final classification in the Vuelta al Pais Vasco.

If anyone was wondering what ever happened to Joaquim Rodriguez, the answer could be found at the Vuelta al Pais Vasco. Purito was back in to win it, as only the greats know how, with two fantastic stage victories and an impeccably ridden race, which also helped him walk away with the final classification.

Following tradition, this brief stage race took place in the Spanish Basques region and was a truly hard race, covering 6 stages from April 6th to the 11th. The Spaniard from Team Katusha started his victory march on Wednesday in the 3rd stage, the 170.7 km Vitoria-Zumarraga, beating the Colombian duo Sergio Henao (Team Sky) and Nairo Quintana (Movistar). As if that wasn’t enough, Purito repeated the feat the following day, also winning at the finish line in Arrate, where he defeated Bake Mollema (Trek) and Simon Yates (GreenEdge).

On top of it all, Joaquim Rodriguez also went all-out in the conclusive, 18.3-km individual time trial in Aia, where he was just barely outdone by Dutchman Tom Domoulin (Giant-Alpecin). However, he managed to own the final classification in the 2015 Vuelta al Pais Vasco ahead of Sergio Henao (Sky) and Jon Izagirre (Movistar).

Sidi Sport is thrilled with this victory. In fact, Rodriguez has always been one of the greats in the Sidi Sport stables, and he can always count on his Wire shoes, the top models in the Sidi collection for road racing. Welcome back, Purito!
