Tinkoff-Saxo to hold high-altitude training camp in Livigno in July

The famous Italian Alpine resort will host the team’s training camp from July 5th to 19th. Based at 1,816 meters, Tinkoff-Saxo’s riders will take advantage of the region’s mountains, with peaks at 3,000 meters, to prepare for a number of the season’s high-altitude races.

Cycling fans are in for a treat as special training programs are scheduled for July and August at the brand new Tinkoff Sport Academy.

Tinkoff-Saxo’s intense high-altitude training program will see the team’s riders visit for the first time the famous Italian ski resort. Known as “Little Tibet”, the Livigno area is the point of reference for all athletes that want to train in high altitudes. In addition to riding on the roads of Livigno and on several alpine passes such as Stelvio (highest pass at 2,757 meters), Foscagno, Forcola, Gavia and Mortirolo, Tinkoff-Saxo’s riders will work out at the Livigno Fitness Sports Centre.

For Stefano Feltrin, General Manager of Tinkoff-Saxo, choosing Livigno for the team’s training camp was an easy decision. “We think there is no better place in Europe for high-altitude training that can match the world-class infrastructure and sport facilities Livigno has to offer. In Livigno we found the perfect partner to prepare towards some of the season’s most important races,” commented Feltrin.

“This collaboration agreement,” commented Luca Moretti, president of the Livigno Tourism Agency, “officially confirms what was already common knowledge among professional athletes, that Livigno is Europe’s best place for high-altitude training. Tinkoff-Saxo is an elite, world-class professional cycling team and the fact they chose Livigno flatters us a lot.”

For the first time ever, cycling fans will also have the unique opportunity to participate in training camps of the brand new Tinkoff Sport Academy during the months of July and August. A total of 4 weekly camps (July 4 to 11, July 11 to 18, August 1 to 8 and August 29 to September 5) will be open to all cyclists with an adequate fitness level.

Participants in the Tinkoff Sport Academy programs will be divided in 2-3 subgroups, with similar features and performance levels. That way, all participants will be able to undertake physical activity in the best way while maintaining the concept of collective work. For each weekly session there will be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 20 participants.

Tinkoff-Saxo will provide a trainer, mechanic and masseur. All sport activities and related services will start at the team’s headquarters in Aquagranda.
