Tour of Turkey – The Final Race for Gazprom-RusVelo in 2017

On 10-15 of October Gazprom – RusVelo is to compete in the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. The World Tour race will be the final contest for the Russian cycling team in 2017.

The inception of the race dates back to 1963, however, most of its history Tour of Turkey was a cycling contest among amateur riders. This year the race rose up to the highest UCI category and will be the concluding WT event in the professional racing calendar.

Turkish race kicks off in Alanya and finishes in the historic and largest city of the country Istanbul. In six racing days riders are to cover 1026 kilometres. The fourth mountainous stage will be the most crucial for the allocation of places in the overall classification. Sprinters will have their glory time at the first two stages with flat road courses and expected bunch finishes.

Gazprom – RusVelo heads to Turkey to make its debut in the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. The line-up of the Russian cycling team is well balanced and every stage will be a chance to fight for the highest places. Whereas experienced climber of Gazprom – RusVelo Sergey Firsanov is to focus on the mountainous stages, the Russian national champion Alexander Porsev strives to prevail in bunch sprints. Nikolay Trusov and other experienced all-rounders will have their chances on the remaining racing days with craggy road courses.

Alexander Porsev strives to end the racing season on a victorious note: “It’s nice to finish the season in a good weather and at the WT race. I’ve already competed in the Turkish race, but it was long ago and the contest had a different route and date in racing calendar. In 2013 I finished in top five in the sprinter’s stage, this year I strive to improve my result. At the moment I feel great and suppose that our team has good chances to succeed in the final race of the season. This year I had several injuries and the season went quite tough for me. Therefore my motivation for Tour of Turkey is enormous, as it is the final opportunity in 2017, so I will do everything that’s possible to successfully finish the racing season.”

Gazprom – RusVelo line-up:
Ildar Arslanov, Igor Boev, Pavel Brutt, Sergey Lagutin, Sergey Firsanov, Ivan Rovny, Alexander Porsev, Nikolay Trusov.
