Trek Extends Relationship With Team MTN-Qhubeka

Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung is pleased to extend its partnership with Trek that will see the team continue to use the bicycle company’s equipment into the future. Africa’s first UCI-registered Professional Continental team is passionate about innovation and technology and is excited to continue working with a world leader in Trek Bicycles.

Trek Sports Marketing Manager Simon Thompson was excited to announce the news upon his visit to the team’s headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Everyone really gets behind the project because it really fits with our company values and we are really proud of what the team has done, where it’s come from and where it’s gone this year. We’ve been really proud to be able to promote it and promote our association with the team. It’s been a fantastic dream to be part of this journey. So we want to be a part of it as it continues to move forward,” Thompson said.

Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung has enjoyed success at the highest level with the Trek brand such as winning the Milan San Remo classic. During the 2013 season, the team is utilizing the Trek Madone Seven Series for the majority of the year while the Trek Domane was used for the cobbled classics and the Trek Speed Concept during time trials.

“We are really excited to extend with Trek for next year. The support and commitment to our Pro Conti team and feeder team from the Trek Race Shop is incredible and as an organisation they are on the leading edge of the technology curve, which excites and motivates our athletes knowing that they are racing with the best equipment. Trek also supports Qhubeka through the sales of Team MTN-Qhubeka bikes and the Project 1 concept. We are looking forward to the continuity and building on what we did this year,” added Team Principal, Douglas Ryder.

Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung race to raise awareness for Qhubeka, an organisation working to mobilise people in Africa on bicycles. This work to earn model allows people to earn bicycles through various programmes like growing trees, recycling waste and increasing school attendance.

Asked about how this programme fits into Trek’s values, Thompson said, “Trek has a number of really high brand values. One that our President is most passionate about is, ‘the bike is a simple solution to complex problems.’ We all believe that the bike can combat congestion, the environment issues, it can combat obesity and it can also become a vehicle for change by mobilizing as we see through the Qhubeka mission. We believe that the more bikes in the world, the better place the world is going to be,” he concluded.
