Tyler Williams Signs a Two-year Deal with Team Cycling Academy

In the first move to bolster its roster to face the new challenge as a Pro continental team, Israel Cycling Academy team has just signed the Californian cyclist who has shown great promise, Tyler Williams, to a two years contract.

Williams is the first in a series of new International riders that will join the only Professional Cycling team based out of Israel, — to fulfill the teams vision from day 1: To help develop Israeli riders to ride at the highest levels, the grand tours, with the help of emerging talents from all over the world.

“In Tyler we see a great potential but even more then that: A guy with exceptional work ethic” said Team manager Ran Margaliot of the 21 years old who is just finishing his debut year as a full pro with the American Cycling team Axeon. “Tyler had a mixed year but we truly believe that given the opportunity with Academy he will put it to great use. You can say that we’re growing together, the team and the riders, but doing so on the fast track”.

Williams certainly fits that bill. He started cycling at age 15, pretty late in cycling terms, but grew immensely over a short period of time, especially once he joined the BMC developing team. Only age 19 in 2014, he was able to put a memorable showing in the under 23 Paris Roubaix, the hell from the North, that he approached as sort of heaven: “ I found out that I thrive when the going gets tough and the conditions around tends to grind people down. When Cyclists around me seem demoralized by them, I tend to get myself going”. He finished second in the race, and will forever remember the moment when he entered the famous track: “ It was total craziness”.

This year (2016) with his American continental team, Williams adapted fairly quickly, winning a Stage in Chico, 3rd in the US nationals, and even showing his TT abilities in a TTT win for the US team in the Olympias tour. But Israel Cycling Academy Manager Margaliot has a lot more expectations in bringing Williams to Academy: “ He is a Tough guy. He is extremely loyal, and a hard worker. We believe in these kinds of values, and if you possess them – we will give you a chance. Now it’s up to him”.

Looking to strengthen its ranks in the classic races and for a rider that can help the team in its tough racing schedule next year at the Pro Continental level, Williams was offered a 2 year contract.

“The team is a great fit for me, a young and ambitious cyclist. In a way we are very similar” said Williams.

Cycling Academy was founded in December 2014 in Jerusalem, as Israels first Professional cycling team with the clear vision to help Israeli Cycling and bring young Cyclists, especially Israelis, to top levels of cycling.

The team recorded wins in races over 3 continents in the last 20 months and backed by sponsors like Cannondale, Lazer, Hertz Israel, and Verge, as well as the Israeli Canadian Philanthropist Sylvan Adams – Israel Cycling Academy is now set to go Pro Continental for the 2017 season.
