Wanty-Groupe Gobert to Bessèges

Wanty-Groupe Gobert continues its French preparation campaign after the GP La Marseillaise with Etoile de Bessèges. Sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren does appeal on four men from La Marseillaise: Frederik Backaert, Yoann Offredo, Guillaume Van Keirsbulck and Pieter Vanspeybrouck. They are complemented by Wesley Kreder, Andrea Pasqualon, Robin Stenuit and Frederik Veuchelen. For Kreder and Pasqualon it is their debut in the Wanty-Groupe Gobert-shirt.

Hilaire Van der Schueren (sports director): “There is no designated captain for this race. It is primarily a preparation for the spring classics. We see it day by day. Saturday evening we can discuss with an eye on Sunday’s time trial.”

“In Bessèges there are some sprint opportunities. We will bring forward Andrea (Pasqualon) or Robin (Stenuit) in the sprints. Wesley Kreder makes his debut. He was ill, but can start the race according to our doctor Joost De Maeseneer. We will keep track of his evolution.”

Andrea Pasqualon: “I am very happy because Wanty Groupe-Gobert believes in me. I am ready to start the new season in this jersey. Étoile de Bessèges is my first race this season and I’ll go there with the knowledge of having a good preparation during the last 2 months. For me Bessèges will be a real race, no preparation anymore.”

“I will definitely try to do some sprints but if there is any work to be done for my teammates this isn’t a problem. I’ll work hard for the best result of the team. This is also a special period for me and my family because on Wednesday our first child Joyel was born. It was a magical moment that I will never forget. It gives me extra strength and greater confidence to face the new cycling season.”
