WCUP To Fuel ATOC L’Etape Riders

In the 6th edition of L’Etape du California, cycling fanatics get a chance to try out the critical Queen stage three weeks ahead of the race. WCUP nutrition will provide the athletes with the necessary fuel to reach the famous Gibraltar Summit.

Cycling fans all over the world are looking forward to the Tour of California in May. But L’Etape offers the fans something more: before watching the pros conquer the Gibraltar Road Summit, brave legs get the chance to ride the critical Queen Stage of the Amgen Tour of California themselves in a thrilling gran fondo.

The 105 miles parcours starts at Thousand Oaks and goes through beautiful California places, including the Oxnard strawberry fields. But the most exciting part is the 6 miles climb at the end, with an average grade of no less than 8%, up the recently resurfaced Gibraltar Road.

As part of the pro-experience, the cyclists will be treated to a rest and refuel stop approximately every 20 miles. WCUP, a Belgian sports nutrition company, provides them with a wide offering of necessary nutrition at every stop. “This was an opportunity we could not miss”, says WCUP CEO Michel Lenaerts. “Our mission is to provide every passionate adventurer with the right fuel to achieve his absolute best. To complete this ride up the Gibraltar Summit without depleting yourself completely, hydration, energy and recuperation are key.”

Jens Voigt, professional rider and race ambassador for L’Etape, won’t have to shout his famous mantra “Shut up legs” this time, according to WCUP. The trick is to keep your water and energy intake well balanced. By regularly refueling, cyclists can avoid a loss of concentration due to shortage of water. But the WCUP sports nutrition is also very effective in postponing cramps and optimizing the burning of calories.

WCUP has been fueling both elite athletes and adventurers over 20 years. They started out with a focus on cycling, originating from a collaboration between a sports doctor, a biochemist and the director of a cycling team. They were immediately supported by famous cycling legends such as Greg Lemond. Their products are perfectly adjusted to the needs of a cyclist and thus a surplus to the L’Etape experience. “We will make sure that you still have the energy to smile for a photo when you reach the summit”, laughs Michel Lenaerts.
